Time To Push Through The Winter Boredom
In my last post, I told you I would try to study and read a bit more. That has not happened. The only things that have been on my radar are my job, Netflix dramas, and my family of course.
Sometimes we need the entertainment to get a smile on our faces, recharge, or just let our brain think about something else. But when I pushed through the whole month of January with it, I must say that I am disappointed in myself (Even if The Queen's Gambit and The Lincoln lawyer were Bingeworthy).
So why do we do this to ourselves? What do we do differently when we don't go into zombie mode?
On a lunch break at work, I open up to a colleague and ask him about this and both agree that if we set up a goal for ourselves, something that is really important for us, something to strive for, something to accomplish, something that will make us and the world around us better. Then a month on Netflix is probably not the first thing to come to mind.
Okay, so I need something more important than enjoying good entertainment, if I pick too big of a dream it's easy to be discouraged. So what should you choose?
In the midst of all my thoughts, my colleague says something that sets of the lightbulb. "But Jack, you have a family that must keep you quite busy right?
There and then I decided that my mission for this year is to push my son on all fronts. My guess is that this will be the theme for the blog this year!
I like to start the morning with some studying, ABC, numbers, colors, and so on. I want him to be better to hold a pen, so coloring and following lines are on the schedule. Jay also likes puzzles so I like to challenge him with that too. You can take away the frame to make it a little bit more difficult, how about making a puzzle upside down?
Mostly because of laziness, Jay did not go to swimming school when he was smaller. Another reason could also be that most pools were closed and it was corona running around. We made our first visit last month and he enjoyed it a lot!
It's hard to find a good outside activity in the winter because of the weather and because I am a summer guy. But when the sun is shining, then it can be quite pleasant to be outside! Inside is more stretching, yoga, and gymnastics but we still have a long way to go so I will keep you updated on that front.
Mentally I am just trying to be supportive and give him the space to learn to regulate his emotions. If I notice that he is scared of something I use to push that a little bit. For example, now he is a little bit afraid of the dark. So we do fireman training where he needs to find toys in a totally dark room.
I am very happy that I choose my son's development as a goal for this year and I am looking forward to sharing the results with you!
Thank you!
