How I met my wife

On my 2016 winter holiday, I remember sitting close to the pool chatting with my family, and playing cards. Thinking about taking a small trip through Thailand and spending some days in Bangkok around New years eve.

Young, excited, and eager to have some fun. I ended up in a quite low-class hotel close to Khao San road ( did not even have a window). But tired after a lot of traveling, I did not think about it too much. After a shower and a change of clothes, I went out on the street and started exploring all the live-band places around the area. In one of the restaurants I started talking to a wonderful Canadian couple that was on their honeymoon, we kept talking, playing pool, and had a great time.

It started to get late and the lovely couple pressed the home button. The night haven't been too lively, so I decided to take a walk and see if I could find something interesting. I don't remember exactly how, but I ended up in a Tuk-Tuk with a South African guy and a couple of girls on our way to a club somewhere in Bangkok. At the entrance, the Girls decided not to go in, and that was probably for the best. Because if not, I would never walk up to the bar and ask my future wife what she likes to drink?

I was surprised when she answered that she can take the same as me. (Because most of the Asian girls I had met in Thailand couldn't speak that much English.

That she had lived three years in London and was from Tokyo got me even more excited. She was there with her roommate Kriss and that was a perfect match for my new South African friend. So after a couple of drinks and a lot of dancing. I and Miho decided to take a taxi back to my hotel.

Must be honest and say that not much happened the first night, more than she criticized me for the low standard of the hotel.. and how in the world I was able to stay there! ( I must say that I loved her honesty).

We slept for a couple of hours and when we woke up, I convinced her that we at least could take breakfast together. The breakfast tasted delicious and we had our first wonderful conversation. She left shortly after, but I had a feeling that this would probably not be the last time I saw her.

A couple of days went by and I got a message from Miho asking if I will come to Bangkok before I return to Sweden. I got quite excited because I thought she was not that interested in me. So I packed my bags and went to Bangkok. When I arrived at their apartment, I was shocked by their hospitality (everyone that has been in Japan, can probably relate). When I walked through the door I had one beer in my hand and the shower standing by. The food was in the making ready for me to eat when I come out from the shower.

I stayed two days in their apartment, after that we decided to spend a couple of days in various hotels ( and yes !  these had windows).

My wife had already lived a couple of months in Bangkok so she was the perfect guide. We visited markets, restaurants, rooftop bars and just had a beautiful time together (it was kind of magical). But like all stories, it has an end and I was on my plane towards home.

From this trip, a seed had now been planted inside of me, so the next coming weeks went to brainstorm ways how we could be together. Coming from a small town, I always had the dream to live in a big city. So after some thought, Tokyo felt like the best answer. Fast forward six months, with many conversations and messages between each other. I am off to Japan, having my future wife waiting for me at the airport. Ready to take me to our new apartment.

I  live by these beliefs.
If you don't try you don't know
and
if you going to go after something, why not choose your goals and dreams?
